Reigning UFC lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev is currently recovering from an injury. Fans have been eagerly waiting for his return to the octagon. However, a recent viral video has given fans a delightful glimpse into Makhachev’s life outside the cage, showcasing his lighter side. Here is what happened:

The video, which surfaced online, captured Islam Makhachev spending time in a park. There he engaged in a playful wrestling match with a young boy. The child, full of enthusiasm, eagerly tried to take down the Dagestani champion.

Despite being one of the most formidable fighters in the world, Makhachev is seen being gentle and patient with the boy, allowing him to attempt various moves. The encounter took an amusing turn. During one of the boy’s attempts to take Makhachev down, the UFC star quietly tied the child’s shoelaces together.

Unaware of what had happened, the young boy continued his efforts, only to realize as he tried to move that his laces were tied. Makhachev is currently recovering from a hand injury that he sustained during his title defense against Dustin Poirier at UFC 302. The partial ligament tear in his hand has raised concerns about his ability to fight again in 2024. Although Makhachev is eager to compete before the year ends, his participation remains uncertain.

Dana White trolls Islam Makhachev for trying to prove Jon Jones is the #1 P4P fighter

Dana White stirred up controversy by strongly defending Jon Jones as the UFC’s top pound-for-pound fighter. Consequently, this led to some criticism directed at Islam Makhachev. This debate reignited after UFC 302, where Makhachev successfully defended his lightweight title against Dustin Poirier.

White argued at the recent Contender Series press conference that Jones, despite his inactivity, deserves the P4P top spot. He dismissed Makhachev’s claim to the P4P crown emphasizing that Jones’ achievements and willingness to fight anyone in heavier divisions give him the edge.

Islam, many people believe, lost to the guy who’s in a weight class below him. Is that how pound-for-pound works? Many people, including people in this room. He fought a weight class down. Jones Jones fought a weight class up… Jon Jones has always been willing to fight anybody.

Makhachev responded to White’s comments by downplaying the importance of the debate. The Dagestani champion acknowledged that it might just be White’s personal opinion. Makhachev emphasized that he is focused on his performances and that he delivered an exciting fight at UFC 302, which he believes should speak for itself.
