Vijay Hazare Trophy: Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead Uttar Pradesh, Suresh Raina snubbed

Bhuvneshwar Kumar

After a disappointing run in the recently concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Uttar Pradesh have made some big changes in their side for the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Veteran quick Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as the captain of the side. Priyam Garg, Rinku Singh, Shivam Mavi and Karthik Tyagi are some other big names featuring in the side.
Kumar is returning to action after quite a long time. He picked up a calf injury during IPL 2020 and is yet to play competitive cricket this year. His return has strengthened the bowling unit which has some exciting young talents in Mavi and Karthik. But it is the batting that will their main concern. With no Suresh Raina in the side, Rinku Singh will have to step up if UP wants to put up a fight in the competition.
Suresh Raina snubbed

Veteran Indian batsman Suresh Raina has been snubbed from the side. The decision comes after UP’s poor run in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In the recently concluded T20 tournament, Raina failed to perform both with the bat and as the captain. His poor form might have led the selectors to leave out the star performer. It is yet to be known if he was unavailable for selection.
The Vijay Hazare Trophy will kick off on February 20. Before the matches, the teams will have to go through the process of the quarantine and COVID tests at the designated venues. The teams will have to follow strict rules once they are in the bio bubble as BCCI strives to adapt to the new normal.
