With the New York Rangers entering a rebuild after trading Artemi Panarin and Carson Soucy, a Vincent Trocheck deal looks increasingly likely.

- Vincent Trocheck is reportedly seeking a trade from the New York Rangers ahead of the deadline.
- His seven-year-old son made a humorous remark about staying put despite the potential move.
- The Minnesota Wild is a top contender for Trocheck, aligning with his desire to join a winning team.
Vincent Trocheck, 32, has emerged as one of the most talked-about athletes ahead of the trade deadline on Friday. Trocheck, who’s fresh off a gold medal campaign in Milan, is reportedly looking for a change from the New York Rangers, where he plays as a center and forward.
Ahead of his projected trade, Trocheck has talked with his family after the Rangers manager, Chris Drury, informed the 32-year-old of a potential trade. As a dad to two kids, Trocheck also had a word with them and his seven-year-old had a perfect quip about relocating to a new place.
Needless to say, Leo Trocheck‘s comment has become the statement of the trade deadline. Trocheck said, via Greg Wyshynski of ESPN, eliciting a cackle from the group of reporters:
My son was like, ‘Well, I’ll stay. I have a hockey team here. I didn’t get traded.
We already have a winner of the NHL Trade Deadline… and it’s Vincent Trocheck’s 7-year-old son 😂😭

Trocheck, who has three seasons left in his seven-year-deal with the Rangers, could only agree with his son’s point. He added that there was a bunch of emotions when he spoke to Leo and his five-year-old sister Lennon, both of whom are enrolled in schools in the city. Though his son wished to stay in the city alongside his mom and sister, to be close to his friends, Hillary, Trocheck’s wife, reportedly told him that she would move the next second he was traded.
The New York Rangers have been one of the league’s weakest teams, ranking last in the Metropolitan Division. Chris Drury had issued a statement on January 16 about a potential rebuild, and followed through with Artemi Panarin shifting bases to Los Angeles Kings and Carson Soucy to New York Islanders.
The veteran center admitted that he has certain restrictions on where to be traded. He acknowledged that he wants to play on a good team, which is not in the same boat as the Rangers. Trocheck said, via NHL website:
If I’m going to get traded and it’s to a team that’s in the same situation as us, then I don’t want to move. That sounds miserable in a new city. And I am 32 years old. I would like to win a Stanley Cup. So if I am going to get traded I would like to go to a team that’s winning or has a chance to win.
He also has a 12-team no-trade list, featuring most of the West Coast teams. He explained that his family is predominantly settled in the eastern states, and he would like to be close to them.
Minnesota Wild remains one of the top landing spots for Vincent Trocheck
The Minnesota Wild is one of the top favorites for the Stanley Cup this season. The Wild is currently ranked third in the Central Division, closely behind the Dallas Stars, matching Trocheck’s expectation of playing in a contender team where he could finally win the elusive Stanley Cup.

Though not as close to New York as some other teams, Minnesota is just three and a half hours on a flight. Back to the competition aspect, the Wild is not looking for a rebuild, but they do lack a proven top-six center. Trocheck can provide that for them.
Trocheck can bring a two-way reliability for the franchise, as well as faceoff strength and special-teams impact. He played in 46 games for the Rangers this season, scoring 12 goals and 27 assists for them. He also can bring stability to the Wild in power play and penalty where they have faltered and remained inconsistent.
The trade also reunites him with Bill Guerin, the Team USA manager from Milano Cortina 2026 as well as Matt Boldy, Quinn Hughes, who were part of the team that won gold. The team has multiple players at the peak of their performances, and adding Trocheck into that equation could change things for Minnesota as well as add silverware to the 32-year-old’s cabinet.
