Vinesh Phogat thrilled to be recommended for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award


Vinesh Phogat has won the bronze medallist in World Championships 2019

Asian Games and Commonwealth Games Champion Vinesh Phogat is extremely thrilled to be recommended for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. The 25-year-old wrestler has secured an Olympic quota place in women’s 53kg. She feels that the national honour will motivate her to shine in the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.

Speaking to SportStar about her areas of improvement, Phogat emphasised on the fact that bouts in 53kg is of more duration than 50kg. She does need to mentally strengthen her mindset, attack and defence for that. And is continuously working on improving her leg attack technique.

She also spoke about her husband, Somveer’s role on her life and how he often helps in keeping a positive mindset. She also appreciated him for taking care of everything around her. Which helps Phogat to fight with a free mind.

Due to coronavirus pandamic, athletes couldn’t train and has weakened the best of them. Vinesh has coped up ever so well in these tough times to resume her training. Trying to be in the best shape possible, Vinesh does have an expectation of everyone to back a medal in the Olympics after her recent form.
