Punjab Kings (PBKS) is currently having a poor season, managing only two wins out of six matches. The team lies 9th and their chances to qualify for the 2024 IPL playoffs look tough. Former player, Virender Sehwag, decided to call out the poor performances of their star all-rounder during the poor run.

Sam Curran, who was purchased for ₹18.5 crore, had a poor showing with the bat against Gujarat Titans. Coming in to open, the English all-rounder managed only 20 off 19. Virender Sehwag was unimpressed and believed the star needed to be dropped.

I wouldn't pick him (Sam Curran) if I was in the PBKS dugout. He will not be in the team as a batting all-rounder or a bowling all-rounder. A player who bats and bowls a bit is of no use. You either perform with bat or ball and win the match. I don’t understand this bits and pieces thing.

This isn’t the first time the former Indian captain called out Curran. Curran so far has scored only 152 runs in eight innings, with an average of 19 and strike rate of 116.03. He has been impressive with the ball though, taking 11 wickets and is 5th in the Purple Cap race.

Sam Curran fined 50% match fees for breaking code of conduct

Sam Curran has been fined by the IPL and BCCI for showing dissent to the umpires. The PBKS captain did not agree with a decision made by the umpire, leading to Curran confronting them. This action led to him breaching the IPL code of conduct, committing a level 1 offense under Article 2.8. He has been fined 50% of his match fees.

Along with Curran, two Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) stars have been fined by the IPL. Virat Kohli had a heated argument with the umpires after he was dismissed during RCB’s loss to Kolkata Knight Riders. This led to a fine of 50% of his match fees. Faf du Plessis was also fined ₹12 lakh by the IPL for maintaining a slow over rate.
