Klay Thompson was one of the prime reasons the Golden State Warriors became a dynasty. A team that played evolutionary basketball on their way to 4 NBA titles in the past 10 seasons. But today, Thompson has moved to Dallas after he signed with the Mavericks. Now sporting a different shade of blue led Warriors owner Joe Lacob to take a playful jab at his former star.

The billionaire owner joined David Aldridge and Marcus Thompson on a video conference call during The Athletic’s NBA Show. There he was asked about a viral video of him bowing down to Thompson.

I sent him that little video of me bowing to him. I still feel that way about him, and I always will. It will never change. I don’t care what people think happened. Honestly, I get a little teary eyed about it. I hope we’re going to be friends forever. And he’s just going to be in Dallas for a few years, we’ll have to kick his a**! But that’s just the job. I’m sure he feels the same way.
Joe Lacob said alluding to the video

Suggesting that his Warriors won’t keep sentiments in line when facing the Mavericks. Klay Thompson will have to be focused to avoid a loss at the hands of his old team. Of course, this was a playful jab. Lacob was clear on how he regards his former star despite him joining a conference rival. After all, Thompson helped his team become the most valued and winningest franchise of the past decade.

The very reason Thompson could join the Dallas Mavericks was because Joe Lacob and the front office accepted the trade out of respect for the 5-time All-Star. Generally, no franchise allows their players to move to a conference rival.

Klay Thompson targets NBA title with Dallas Mavericks

Klay Thompson signed with the Dallas Mavericks to contribute to another NBA title or two. In addition to contributing as a starter, he wants to win another title to prove to the basketball world that he was not a product of the system the Golden State Warriors have.

The Mavericks just lost in the NBA Finals. So, with his addition, both he and the franchise are hoping to take that extra step. If he can rediscover his shooting form, it will help the franchise tremendously. A lack of scoring was what became their undoing. Even if he can contribute moderately better than what the rest of the Mavericks players can, it will be beneficial.

If the Warriors come in the way of that title, neither he nor his former teammates will back down. Just as Joe Lacob said, they will want to kick his a**. But he might want to do that to them too. If this results in a great battle, the basketball world will forget how everything originated.
