Alexander Volkanovski sits atop the pound for pound rankings comfortably at the moment. After last night’s events backstage at UFC 280, we are not so sure anymore.

One quick look at Alexander Volkanovski’s resume gives you a rough idea of who he is as a fighter – the word that comes to mind is dominant. In the last three years alone, he has beaten future hall of famer Max Holloway thrice, Brian Ortega, and Korean Zombie.

However, it seems as if his time as pound for pound number one has come to an end. And, it did not even need to be contested in the octagon. UFC icon Hasbulla and Alexander Volkanovski have had some beef, with the former having smashed a burger in the latter’s face only a few months back.

This time, there was no mercy. In a tussle that was recorded backstage last night, Hasbulla brutally puts a beating on Alexander Volkanovski and stands atop the fighter stricken to the floor, and then poses with the fighter’s very belt. Call it the end of an era, if you’d like!

Hasbullah Magomedov’s role in the UFC is slightly confusing

A few weeks back, Hasbulla Magomedov was announced as being signed to fight by the promotion. Here’s why that’s slightly perplexing and even a little misleading. First, there is no actual footage of him fighting or even training MMA. Secondly, he has a developmental deficiency – while it is only speculated, he could have a Growth Hormone Deficiency. That would bar him from fighting. [H/T TheScotsman]

Hence, the question really is – is the UFC using the 20 year old as an entertainment tool for the promotion? The answer to that isn’t available to us yet, as his announcement post said that fans would get to see more of his engagement as the year came to a close.

That being said, Magomedov’s immense and far reaching popularity will ensure him being compensated for his services akin to a top fighter. No wonder, he’s been on top of fans’ feeds heading into the UFC’s marquee event in Abu Dhabi this weekend.

What he will do in the UFC might be unknown still, it can be said that fans are loving every moment of the Russian on their screens.
