WATCH: Ben Stokes, Trent Boult involve in 2019 World Cup Final Deja Vu

Ben Stokes and Trent Boult

Something eerily similar happened on Day 3 of the Lord’s Test between England and New Zealand, that reminded everyone of World Cup 2019 when Ben Stokes accidently deflected the throw from a fielder to the boundary.

What happened was that in the 43rd over of England’s fourth innings, on the first ball bowled by Trent Boult, at the crease were Ben Stokes and Joe Root and the latter played a pull shot and the due looked for a single run. But the fielder was quick and Stokes hurriedly scampered to the non-striker’s end. Then it happened. The ball got defleted off Stokes’ bat.

Going backward to 2019 World Cup final, the last over drama saw the game heading towards Super Over. On the second last ball of the final over of Trent Boult, Stokes had played a shot to deep mid-wicket and Martin Guptill had thrown the ball to the keeper’s end. Stokes then dived to get back to the crease but the ball got deflected from his bat and went for a boundary and England got six runs and won the trophy.

When the similar incident happened in the present match, both England stars raised their hands to replicate Stokes’ reactions from the World Cup final match. “What’s going on!” chuckled commentator Simon Doull. While the other one, Mark Taylore said, ” Why does he save the shot for Lord’s?”. And it was smiles on both sides. Watch the two videos below:
