Collision between a cyclist and a fan
The Cicloturista Condaca Salmor Bike event saw a very anti-climatic end. The lead cyclist of the event, whose name is yet to be learned, suffered a brutal crash with a spectator just near the finish line. The event which came to an unfortunate end was taking place in place in the Canary Islands and featured a total of 270 riders.
Video of the incident shows the woman looking into her phone as she wanders onto the track and directly into the cyclist’s path right before the collision. The subsequent crash sent both the cyclist and spectator viciously to the ground. While the cyclist can be seen flipping over his handlebars and onto the pavement, the spectator rolls several times after she hit her head on the ground.

According to reports, the emergency services arrived at the incident and the cyclist was taken to the Hospital Nuestra Senora de Los Reyes, suffering from a moderate head injury. The spectator on the other hand was treated on the spot with local reports also suggesting she had been taken to Tenerife for further treatment.
A spokesman for the regional emergency services said, as quoted by Cyclingweekly.com, “An injured cyclist in El Hierro has been taken to hospital following a collision with another person. The information we received was that the cyclist had run over another person during a sporting event.
“The cyclist appeared from a first evaluation to be suffering from non-serious head injuries. The woman who had been knocked over was treated at the scene by medical services covering the event. A police investigation into the incident is underway.”
