The world cup qualifier between Serbia and Portugal ended in controversy as Cristiano Ronaldo was denied a goal in the final minutes. The superstar stormed off the pitch and took off his captain’s arm band and threw it on the floor.

‘ An entire nation is being harmed’ : Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo looked absolutely fuming after the incident and that resulted him in taking off the arm band and slapping it on the floor. Asked about his actions he said he did that because an entire nation’s hopes rested on that goal.

Cristiano Ronaldo was fuming at full-time after being denied a 93rd-minute winning goal against Serbia that appeared to cross the line.

“Being captain of the Portugal team is one of the greatest privileges of my life and fills me with pride,” Ronaldo said. “I always give and will give everything for my country, that will never change. 

“But there are difficult times to deal with, especially when we feel that an entire nation is being harmed.”

Portugal had allowed a two-goal lead slip, but launched a late attack and Ronaldo thought he had scored a dramatic winner when he put the ball beyond Serbia goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic.
