Chennai Super Kings (CSK) players were in a lively mood yesterday, and why wouldn’t they be? They got crowned as the champions of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). In the final, CSK defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) by five wickets to lift a record-equalling five IPL trophies on Monday (May 29) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Now they have equaled Mumbai Indians’ record for the most IPL trophies.
After the win, as expected several videos of the victory moment took no time to go viral. Videos on Dhoni’s reactions in particular grabbed the most limelight.
In one of the videos, CSK’s star pacer Deepak Chahar could be seen approaching Dhoni for his autograph on his jersey but the latter outright denied the same. After denying a lot when Chahar still insisted on taking his autograph, an irritated Dhoni first told something about Chahar to IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla before signing the jersey. Though it’s not known what exactly Dhoni told, he can be seen telling ‘catch nahi pakda (you dropped the catch)’. Chahar had dropped Shubman Gill’s catch earlier in GT’s innings.

This isn’t the first time the two got involved in a hilarious banter. Early in the season, in one match, Dhoni was shadow practicing in the dugout and almost hit Chahar who was sitting nearby and had to move away. And in another incident, Chahar was talking to CSK bowling coach Dwyane Bravo when Dhoni, who was walking toward them, almost slapped the star pacer.

Deepak Chahar revealed an unheard story related to MS Dhoni

In an episode of Breakfast with Champions, Deepak Chahar revealed an unheard story related to MS Dhoni about how the latter overruled coach Stephen Fleming‘s decision over team composition.
Chahar played his first match under Dhoni for Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and was later roped in by CSK in 2018. And though Fleming was reluctant to play him from the start, Dhoni wanted to give the star pacer all 14 games.
“In 2018, CSK picked me in the auction, and Fleming was reluctant to play me, while Mahi bhai disagreed and stated, ‘He will play all the 14 games this season,” Chahar said. “Our CEO came to me and revealed that when the team was being formed, my name was always written first.”
