Maria Sakkari, Martina Trevisan
Greek professional tennis player Maria Sakkari had a tough outing against Martina Trevisan in the United Cup semifinal. The Italian defeated Sakkari 6-3, 6-7(4), 7-5 in a match that lasted for more than three hours. The 27-year-old Sakkari was visibly frustrated by the defense of Trevisan as she vented out her anger during the breaks.
The encounter was the longest of the tournament so far with packed crowds at the Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney. During the match, Sakkari was constantly struggling against the defense of Trevisan. In the changeover, Sakkari’s frustration reached its highest point.
She yelled at the bench saying she does not have a Playstation that she can turn to whenever she wishes to hit the line. “F**k’s sake how can I play line? You think I have a Playstation when I’m playing and I can play line? F*ck,” Sakkari was heard shouting.

Maria Sakkari’s frustration was visible even at the end of the match
Greek player Maria Sakkari could not cool her anger down even after the match ended. She did not shake hands with the opponent properly which showed a lack of grace in the event of defeat on Sakkari’s part. Trevisan was seen dancing for a moment after the bitter handshake.
In a post-match press conference, Trevisan talked about her performance. “I came on court ready. was ready to fight. I had a lot of energy,” she said. In their previous encounter at the French Open 2020 too, it was Trevisan who emerged victorious.
The loss of Sakkari in the hands of Trevisan was not the only bad news for the Greek team against Italy in the United Cup. Greek teenager Stefanos Skellaridis failed to overcome the challenge of Lorenzo Musetti and succumbed to the Italian in straight sets. The twin defeats make the road ahead tough for the Greek team in the United Cup.
