World No. 1 Jannik Sinner refused to answer how many ‘snakes’ are there on the ATP Tour. Sinner attended the 2024 SuperTennis Awards in Milan alongside compatriots Matteo Berrettini and Jasmine Paolini on December 4.
During the conversation with Italian television presenter Piero Chiambretti, Sinner pretended that he didn’t understand when Chiambretti asked about the number of ‘snakes’ on the ATP circuit. Sinner got a bit awkward and smiled while listening to the question but after answering he broke into laughter.

Sinner was probably asked the question because of the doping controversy surrounding him. When the case was made known to everyone, he was heavily criticized for avoiding a lengthy ban, which prompted the 23-year-old to confess that the controversy made him know who his real friends were on the ATP Tour.
Sinner failed the drug test in March twice and faced two mandatory suspensions and the prize money he won at the Indian Wells was also taken away. Clostebol was found in his body because of a spray his ex-physio Giacomo Naldi was using.
Rick Macci gives verdict on Jannik Sinner’s doping saga
Jannik Sinner not facing a ban raised many eyebrows and he had to deal with criticism from all corners. Serena Williams‘ former coach Rick Macci has given his verdict on the situation. He thinks all the doping cases are different which is why the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) did not give the same punishment to Sinner.

Each situation is different. Not one size fits all. Sinner incident is documented and the explanation is understandable. Flamethrower should NOT be banned 1 second. Experts who decide fate need to breathe and see if what they have taken on purpose or mistake enhances performance.…

Following Sinner, World No.2 Iga Swiatek also failed a drug test as banned-substance trimetazidine was found in her sample because of melatonin. The Pole served a one-month ban which also included her three-week suspension.
While Swiatek probably would continue to play without much hindrance, Sinner’s fate now rests on the Court of Arbitration for Sport’s (CAS) ruling as the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has demanded a ban on the Italian. The hearing is in February next year which means Sinner would be playing at the Australian Open where he would be entering to defend the title.
