WATCH: Joan Mir crashes in French GP, as Suzuki endure a nightmare with two DNF’s

The fantastic seventh round of this year’s MotoGP World Championship saw the brilliant racers go head-to-head for a mind-blowing Le Mann Grand Prix 2022. And as it happens with most of the thrilling MotoGP races, we saw six riders retire from their run, including big names like Jerez Grand Prix winner Francesco Bagnaia, his teammate at Ducati–Jorge Martin, and two of the riders from KTM, and two from Suzuki.

Recently, Suzuki announced that they would be pulling out from the MotoGP run at the end of the current 2022 season. This implies that the two Suzuki racers–Joan Mir and Alex Rins are officially looking for a seat in the premiere class of motorcycle racing in 2023, and they need to perform flawlessly to lure in team owners to sign with them.

Unluckily for the two Spanish riders, their run at the Le Manns circuit for the French Grand Prix 2022 was cut short as both of them DNF’ed before the end of the race. Joan Mir suffered a terrible crash, and with this, Suzuki succumbs to yet another blow with two DNF’s in a single race.

Currently in the fourth and sixth positions of the MotoGP World Championship table respectively, Alex Rins and Joan Mir are well within the contention for this year’s Championship title winner. But to make sure they can close in on the Championship leader Fabio Quartararo by narrowing the gap between them, both the Spaniard’s needed to make sure they made no mistakes in the French Grand Prix.

Sadly, the two Suzuki drivers had to pull out from the race halfway throught their run. Alex Rins had got the eighth position in Saturday’s Qualifying for the French Grand Prix while Joan Mir was seventh in the grid, just in front of his teammate Rins.

But while Joan Mir was targeting a higher spot, the #36 racer crashed at a turn in the Le Manns circuit and went down. His teammate Alex Rins had already gone down, and Joan’s retirement caused widespread disappointment in the Suzuki garage as he was expected to score good points today.
