The 1st T20I between West Indies and Sri Lanka in Antigua produced a chaotic match that saw top quality entertainment. Even as the match swung like a pendulum especially in the second innings, West Indies skipper Kieron Pollard had the final say as he came up with an explosive counter-attacking cameo that also saw him hit 6 sixes in a single over bowled by Akila Dananjaya who had incredibly taken a hattrick in the previous over.

Earlier, West Indies had won the toss and opted to bowl and the Sri Lankan batters struggled to find their rhythm as none of them could come up with a quick knock. Pathum Nissanka and Niroshan Dickwella had laid down a good platform by taking the visitors to 71/2 in 10 overs but in the final 10 overs, just 60 runs arrived. Obed McCoy was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2-25.

In the chase, Evin Lewis gave West Indies a blazing start but very soon the hosts found themselves in a spot of bother as Akila Dananjaya ripped through the top order removing three of the most explosive batsmen in world cricket – Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle and Nicholas Pooran. The 27-year-old offie was ecstatic and Sri Lanka saw an opportunity to bowl out the Windies cheaply to draw first blood in the series.

However, captain Kieron Pollard had other ideas as he hit six sixes in the next over bowled by Dananjaya to leave the Lankans shell-shocked. Although he soon got out, Jason Holder‘s calm knock and an alarmingly slow innings justified by the situation by Dwayne Bravo saw them through. Kieron Pollard who had also taken a stellar catch to dismiss in Danushka Gunathilaka was adjudged the Man of the Match.

Pollard joined Yuvraj Singh who had achieved the feat of six sixes in an over against Stuart Broad in 2007 and became the second batsman to achieve the feat in T20Is. The other person who has done it in limited overs cricket is Herschelle Gibbs who achieved it against Netherlands in a World Cup ODI in 2007.
