Lorenzo Musetti put in a strong display to beat Giovanni Perricard in the fourth round at the 2024 Wimbledon Championships. He fought from a set down to make it to the quarterfinals at a Grand Slam for the first time in his career.
The Italian has had a fairytale run at SW19 this year. Having received a comparatively easier draw than the rest, the 25th seed took full advantage of that and now finds himself with the outside chance of making a deep run at the Major.
Up against qualifier Giovanni Perricard, who stunned the world by making a strong run at Wimbledon by beating players the likes of Sebastian Korda and Emil Ruusuvuosi to make it to the fourth round. The Frenchman began the match on the front foot and took the lead quickly.
Musetti brushed it aside and fought back to win the next three sets and seal the win 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, 6-2. The match also saw the longest rally of the competition, featuring 30 shots, which came at a crucial time. It was match point for the Italian, who survived the rally and sealed the win.
Overwhelmed, he then fell to the ground in delight and also shed a few tears celebrating the result.

Emotional Lorenzo Musetti was lost for words after a massive win
Lorenzo Musetti is the second Italian to enter the Wimbledon quarterfinals after Jannik Sinner beat Ben Shelton to make it to the last eighth. It is the first time that multiple Italian men have reached the last eight at SW19.
After the first-set loss against Giovanni Perricard, the Italian regrouped and bounced back strong. After the match, he was lost for words when asked to speak about what the result meant to him.
It’s tough for me to get emotional but today I think I will and Iv been dreaming of this moment since I was a…kid.
Lorenzo Musetti said in his on-court interview
Musetti will take on either Alexander Zverev or Taylor Fritz in the quarterfinals. He trails the former 1-0 in the head-to-head and 2-1 against the latter.
