Matt Short leaps and plucks ball out of thin air to dismiss Rilee Rossouw

The match between Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) will be remembered for a very long time. In this match, the lowest-ever total in T20 was scored as the Thunder were bundled out for just 15 runs within the Powerplay. During the match, a brilliant catch by Matt Short was witnessed.

Thunder batter Rilee Rossouw was the second batter to head back toward the pavilion owing to the athleticism of Matt Short in the second over. Henry Thornton was the bowler, whose shortish length ball made Rossouw whack it away, but it traveled over the first slip. The ball would have crossed the boundary had not Matt Short jumped up to grab a spectacular catch out of thin air.

Watch the video below:

Rossouw was Thornton’s first wicket. He went on to complete his fifer and later was adjudged the Player of the Match. His other scalps were – Jason Sangha, Alex Ross, Oliver Davies, and Brendan Doggett.

Even in the backyard, they are (my best figures),” said the birthday boy Thornton said after the match. “I can’t really believe it. They just nicked everything and we caught it. It was an amazing performance and they’re a really good team, so for us to do that is incredible,” he added.

While chasing 140, Sydney Thunder scored the lowest-ever total in the shortest format’s history by surpassing Turkey. Turkey were bowled out for 21 runs against the Czech Republic in 2019.

Within the powerplay, the Thunder lost all of their wickets. This was the first time in men’s T20 innings that a team was sent packing before 50 balls were delivered. Strikers won that match by 124 runs. They’ll face each other again on Tuesday.

Brendan Doggett, who walked to bat at No. 10, was the top-scorer for the Thunder with his four runs. He was the only batter to smash a boundary. The openers went for ducks, and three more batters faced the same result.

Previously, Melbourne Renegades held this unwanted record in BBL history when they scored 57. Tripura, in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, scored 30 in a men’s non-international T20 match. In women’s T20I, Mali and Maldives were bowled out for just six and eight runs, respectively.
