Novak Djokovic was out of the US Open 2020 in a controversial manner. The Serbian defaulted against Pablo Carreno Busta, in the quarter-finals. However, he flew to Europe to begin his clay journey right after that.

The Serbian lost the finals to Rafael Nadal and was a runner up at the ATP 1000 Master. Novak has 35 titles at ATP Masters and will be chasing his 36th title to lead the race. At present, he shares the spot with Rafael Nadal.

The draw will only see the top seed Novak clash with arch-enemy Rafa, second seed in the finals. Djokovic will play his second round against Italian Salvatore Caruso or a qualifier. Further he has Stan Wawrinka and Gael Monfils also in the draw.

The Serbian will try to dominate the clay court and the extra days of practice will allow him to perform better at the Rome courts.
