Russell Westbrook showed love to Kendrick Lamar in latest Instagram post

Denver Nuggets guard Russell Westbrook lit up social media on Saturday, sharing a video of himself dancing to Kendrick Lamar’s chart-topping single, Squable Up, from the rapper’s latest album, GNX. The album has been all over the internet, bursting to the top of Billboard charts for multiple weeks. Showing off his West Coast roots, Westbrook grooved to the lead single off the album.

The post, captioned “Just bored lol,” quickly went viral, amassing nearly 400,000 likes on Instagram, with ex-teammates like Anthony Davis and Dennis Schroder dropping by in the comments section of the post to show their appreciation for ‘Brodie.’

The video definitely resonated with everyone on multiple levels, especially showing off the bond between Russell Westbrook and Kendrick Lamar, both hailing from Los Angeles: Westbrook from Long Beach and Lamar from Compton. Their mutual admiration dates back years, including Westbrook’s public support during Lamar’s high-profile feud with Drake earlier this year.

Westbrook even appeared at Lamar’s The Pop Out: Ken and Friends concert in Inglewood, California, solidifying their connection as LA cultural icons. In an earlier interview, he reflected on attending Lamar’s recent show.

Growing up in the city, you’re able to see all the artists and people come together. Different gangs uniting for one amazing night…I’m grateful to experience this.

Russell Westbrook also spent his last four seasons in LA with the Los Angeles Lakers and the Los Angeles Clippers, respectively, before joining the Denver Nuggets during the offseason.

Russell Westbrook assuming ‘missing’ leadership role for Nuggets

Since joining the Denver Nuggets, Russell Westbrook has been carving a new chapter in his storied career, focusing on fitting a role and providing crucial veteran leadership. Though his stints with the Lakers and Clippers ended amid mixed reviews, the 36-year-old has embraced a supporting role with the Nuggets, offering invaluable experience and energy to a team fighting for consistency in the West.

Westbrook’s present impact goes far beyond the box score, quite unlike the early stages of his career. Nuggets backup center DeAndre Jordan recently spoke on Fanduel’s Run It Back podcast, praising Westbrook’s contributions to the team.

Russ’ resume obviously speaks for itself…He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, from mentoring young players to guarding the best guys down the stretch.

DeAndre Jordan stated

This shift in focus is a stark departure from his days as a triple-double machine in Oklahoma City. While his scoring has tapered off, averaging 11.3 points per game on 39.9% shooting this season, Westbrook’s tenacity and court vision remain intact.

Whether starting or coming off the bench, he pairs well with reigning MVP Nikola Jokic, creating crucial mismatches with his relentless pace. In 22 games this season, Westbrook has averaged 6.4 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, alongside his scoring output.

The 36-year-old is thriving as a versatile role player for the Nuggets. His ability to step up as Jamal Murray continues to struggle has been crucial, especially as Denver aims to maintain its championship aspirations.
