The past year itself was one of of the most unexpected and tumultuous ones that our society has collectively faced. Along with the rest of the world, the tennis season came to halt with the spread of Covid-19. However, after much contemplation and a considerable pause, the ATP Tour res-started, albeit without anyone in the stadiums.

Not only this, it saw the emergence of players like Jannik Sinner, Casper Rudd and Ugo Humbert. Further, Dominic Thiem succeeded to claim his maiden Grand Slam title at the U.S Open. In addition to this, Rafael Nadal lifted his record-equalling 13th Roland Garros title as well. 

These results came about with an incredible display of tennis by a myriad of players.

The Absolutely Astounding Shots of the Year

The tenth spot is taken by France’s Benoit Paire. He dove on the court to make an impossible shot against Kevin Anderson at the ATP Cup 2020.

Stefanos Tsitsipas

Stefanos Tsitsipas books the ninth spot with his around-the-net mastery at the ATP Cup. He did so in the opening game of his doubles-clash, which ultimately set the stage for what was about to come.

Grigor Dimitrov

Next in line is Grigor Dimitrov, who stretched to the moon and back to ace his forehand against Dan Evans. Further, the Bulgarian also won this battle 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.

Gael Monfils

To not lose an incurable opportunity, Gael Monfils splendidly converted a backhand with his athleticism to his specialty, a forehand. The Frenchman did so against Dan Evans in the quarter-finals of Rotterdam

Dominic Thiem

One of the greatest moments of 2020 came by the hands of Jaume Munar. The Spaniard hit a drop shot at to the World No.3, Dominic Thiem’s astonishingly powerful serve at the Rio Open

Pierre Hugues Herbert

Felix Auger-Aliassime was dictating the play against Pierre-Hugues Herbert in Marseille. However, the Frenchman returned all these shots and claimed the point with a magnificent return to Felix’s smash. 

Jannik Sinner

Further along, Norbert Gombos tried to ace past Jannik Sinner. But, with some luck and precision, the 19-year-old returned the smash right at the baseline of his opponent.

Alexander Bublik

One of the slowest aces came about when Alexander Bublik hit a surprise under-arm serve and won the point. This left his opponent, Cristian Garin fuming. Eventually though, Garin won the battle 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Novak Djokovic vs Tennys Sandgren

Novak Djokovic and Tennys Sandgren engaged in a long rally at the Cincinnati Masters. However, Nole saw an opportunity to smash the ball, so he proceeded to take it. Sandren had already given up on his chances at the point, so he had turned around to take his spot at the baseline. The ball though, hit Tennys’ racquet and ricocheted off of it towards a lines person. 

Hubert Hurkacz

The greatest point came about when Ivan Dodig did a complete 360 to hit Hubert Hurkacz’s serve at the ATP Cup.
