Hardik Pandya dealt with different problems the last three months in his personal life. Ahead of the start of IPL 2024, Mumbai Indians brought back Pandya from Gujarat Titans and appointed him as the captain of Mumbai Indians. The legendary five-time IPL winning captain and Indian Cricket Team captain, Rohit Sharma, was sacked without any discussion if reports are to be believed.
Mumbai Indians fans and Rohit Sharma loyalists did not take the decision lightly as they felt their legend was disrespected and it sparked a tremendous hostile reaction against Hardik Pandya. Pandya was booed, abused, and jeered everywhere in India.
The fans in the stadium, especially at the Wankhede, booed Pandya and abused him at every sight. Whenever Pandya got out, the fans celebrated it. He was suffering badly and it affected his mental health. However, he showed no reaction.
Come the T20 World Cup 2024, Pandya showed why he is a big match player for Team India on the biggest occasions. He performed with both the bat and the ball and helped India win the T20 World Cup 2024. Even in the final, Pandya sent back Heinrich Klaasen and bowled the all important final over where he defended the runs.
The whole reception against Pandya changed after the World Cup. Fans were supporting and singing praises of the all-rounder and were even apologizing for abusing him. Team India have reached the country today and will host an open bus parade in Mumbai to the Wankhede stadium. Lakhs of fans have gathered to celebrate the victory with the Men in Blue. Now, a video has gone viral which has shown, the fans in Wankhede stadium chanting the name of Pandya.
Hardik Pandya has displayed his all round prowess in the T20 World Cup 2024
Pandya has been sensational with the bat and the ball. He has scored 144 runs in the tournament with a strike rate of 151.58. Pandya has also picked up 11 wickets in the tournament. He came up with crucial innings in the Super 8 against Afghanistan and Bangladesh. He also played a superb cameo in the semi final against England.
With Rohit Sharma already retired from T20Is, Pandya can become the new captain of the Indian Cricket Team in the shortest format of the game. It will be interesting to see how the crowd reacts during Mumbai Indians’ matches at Wankhede next year.
