Spanish legend Rafael Nadal scripted history at the 2022 Australian Open by beating second seed Daniil Medvedev in the final to become the first man to win 21 major titles. It was the second-longest Australian Open final and Nadal came from two sets down to win the match in a 5-set thriller.

As soon as he won, rightly so, a debate sparked over whether he has now become the ‘Greatest of all time.’ For the very same reason, he got congratulatory messages from all over the world. His friends and arch-rivals- Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic too lauded him for creating history. Federer, in particular, wrote down an emotional message for Nadal.

Nadal recently responded to Federer’s heartful message. The Spaniard said that he shares an amazing relationship with Federer and it’s an honor to be part of his era. He added that they have shared historic moments together and receiving such a message means a lot to him.

“We have an amazing relationship – we did amazing things together. For me, it’s a great honor to be part of his era. Together we have enjoyed and lived amazing moments of the history of our sport. To receive a message like this from him means a lot to me,” Nadal said.

Nadal also wished well for Federer for his recovery and revealed that he hopes to play him once again. “I wish him well, he knows, and I really hope that we will be able to play again in important stages,” the 21-time grand slam champ said.

Roger Federer underwent yet another knee surgery a few months ago and was even on crutches for a month. He is still recovering and is expected to be back in training from the next month. According to him, he should be fit around Wimbledon but playing at the AELTC will be very difficult this year.

As for Nadal, he will take a few weeks off after an eventful summer Down Under. He is scheduled to play at Acapulco next which begins on February 21. But if he doesn’t complete his recovery in time, he will most probably miss it and will be seen directly at Indian Wells next month.
