“We will catch up step by step,” Valtteri Bottas believes that Alfa Romeo can catch up with the top teams
Valtteri Bottas
When Valtteri Bottas was racing with Mercedes, worrying about money and development was non-existent due to the huge budgets that the manufacturer had put in the first place. It all changed when the Finn joined Alfa Romeo who are comparatively a very small team. This also meant a small budget but with FIA intervention, it has played out really well for Bottas and his team.
In 2021, the FIA introduced budget caps for all the teams in order to bring the teams as close as possible to make the racing even better. This has played into the hands of Alfa Romeo as the top teams will have to downsize in order to meet the criteria. Valtteri Bottas talked about the differences between a top team and a small team in an interview.
Valtteri Bottas can be found at the Alfa Romeo factory more often compared to him visiting the Mercedes factory during his time in the Brackley-based team. The Finn said that it is comparatively easier to implement new initiatives. Perks of being in a small team like Sauber. Here is what he had to say about the whole experience of racing with the team this year.

“The midfield is incredibly close,” Valtteri Bottas
“Absolutely. The midfield is incredibly close. Tighter than ever. And the gap to the top has also narrowed. The three top teams will certainly still benefit a little from their old advantages, but I am hopeful that we will catch up step by step,” Valtteri Bottas said.
After joining a new team this season, Valtteri Bottas looks to be calmer and more relaxed. This is partly thanks to not receiving the pressure that he used to get at Mercedes and also the fact that the Finn has signed a multi-year contract with the team which sorts him out for the future.
