“We’re appreciate Matt Ryan” Atlanta Falcons GM Terry Fontenot gives his verdict on QB’s trade to the Indianapolis Colts
The Atlanta Falcons are going through a rebuilding phase at the moment. The Falcons parted ways with one of their best players, Matt Ryan trading him to the Indianapolis Colts as they had their sights on getting a new quarterback to lead them into the new season.
Deshaun Watson was their priority signing during the entirety of the offseason, but the Falcons came out second best in his pursuit, and Watson signed a massive contract with the Cleveland Browns. Ryan wanted a move out of the franchise, as soon as he found out Falcons’ interest in Deshaun Watson and eventually earned his move to the Colts.
Matt Ryan did not experience any resistance from the Falcons in securing a trade move
Atlanta Falcons general manager, Terry Fontenot gave an insight into the thinking they had before deciding to let go Matt Ryan while making an appearance on the Rich Eisen show this week.
Fontenot said, “Well in our opinion, we have a really good staff, coaches and the entire staff. We go through a process Rich, where we want to get the best players of the board. That’s the way we’re going to operate. If we feel like a QB is a best player on the board, we’re going to take him.”
“You’re not going to solve everything in one draft, or one preseason. Its progress over perfection, we’re trying to improve our roster so the player that we took off the board, we have clear plans for that guy.”
“Matt’s at Indianapolis right now. We appreciate Matt Ryan and the time we’re able to spend with him. We’re really happy for him and are also excited about our quarterback room right now.”
