Axolotls are one of the newer mobs that have been introduced in the game in the Caves and Cliffs update Part I. Axolotls in Minecraft are players’ friends and enemies of hostile underwater mobs. However, fans are quite curious about this underwater critter’s diet. Take a look at what Axolotls eat in Minecraft.

The Caves and Cliffs update Part I released earlier this year along with many new changes to the game. Among the changes were some biome changes, tweaks in UI and also some new additions in the form of mobs. These are the Axolotls, Glow Squids and the Sheep. These 3 mobs have became very popular among the player base and often some questions are asked about their features.

What do Axolotls eat in Minecraft?

Axolotls are an aquatic mob and survive on a diet of Tropical Fish. Tropical Fish are a fish variety that are found in oceans and warm ocean biomes in the game.

However, even though the Tropical Fish can be caught with a fishing rod, players need a Bucket of Tropical Fish to feed them to an Axolotl. Therefore, make a Bucket and click on the block of water with Tropical Fish, to capture a bunch. As a lesser known fact, players can also find them from a Wandering trader for one Emerald.

Feed the Axolotl by taking out the Bucket of Tropical Fish in their main hand and clicking on the Axolotl. The Axolotl can also be bred using the tropical fish.

Minecraft Axolotls are one of the three mob introduced in the Caves and Cliffs Part I and is by far the most popular one. These mob are the only other aquatic friend of the player other than the Dolphin.

Axolotls are hostile towards many of the other hostile mobs like the Drowned, Guardians and Elder Guardians. They will attack them along with the player and also act dead when injured to a certain extent. They will apply regeneration on themselves and get back up again after recovering.

Axolots have several benefits for players in the game, which is why Minecraft players are always eager to have more and more of this underwater critter. Therefore, it’s always best to keep them well-fed and happy.
