The semi-finals of the King of the Ring tournament will feature Jey Uso facing off against Gunther on the Raw bracket. After the 38-year-old’s quarterfinal match on Raw, the Austrian made his way to the ring. The two had a staredown as the show went off the air.
After the show went off the air, the two superstars stood in the ring side-by-side. Gunther looked like he was going to join Jey Uso in his signature Yeet pose. However, as the two raised their hands, the former Intercontinental Champion kicked the 11-time Tag Team Champion in the stomach and laid him down.
Earlier in the night, Gunther beat Kofi Kingston in his quarter-final match to proceed to the next round. Later on in the show, Ilja Dragunov took on the Samoan in the other quarter-final match on Raw. In a somewhat controversial decision by WWE, Uso got a clean victory over the recent NXT call-up after a spear and a splash from the top rope. The former Bloodline member even kicked out of the H-bomb earlier in the match.
This set him up to face the former Intercontinental Champion in the semi-finals next week. The winner of this match will proceed to the finals of the King of the Ring tournament at the King and Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia.
Jey Uso remembers Bray Wyatt every time he makes his way to the ring
Jey Uso gave an interview after his King of the Ring quarter-final match against Ilja Dragunov. Jackie Redmond asked the superstar if he was fit to be a King. He replied that there was no doubt about it. Additionally, he showered praise on the Mad Dragon for putting up such a strong fight.
Up next, Redmond brought up his entrance to the ring, which had been appreciated by other superstars and fans alike. The former Tag Team Champion referred to the fans turning on their flashlights as ‘fireflies’. This was a nod to the late great Bray Wyatt. Jey revealed that he thinks about the former WWE Champion every time the fireflies come on, along with the whole WWE Universe, which keeps him in their hearts.
The Samoan was elated that he was organically receiving such a reaction from the fans. The lights showed up without him ever asking for them. Uso emotionally said that he knew Wyatt was watching down on him and that he loved him dearly. Finally, he thanked the WWE Universe for showing their love to him through the fireflies.
