Renato Moicano and Beneil Dariush were scheduled to fight each other in a much anticipated lightweight clash at UFC 311. However, with Arman Tsarukyan pulling out at the very last moment, Moicano agreed to fill in and fight Islam Makhachev for the lightweight championship. However, this has put Dariush in a position that the fighter had never expected.

Dariush had planned his UFC return after a 12-month hiatus, determined to secure a much-needed victory and break his two-fight losing streak. However, his comeback plans fell short, extending his recent struggles. Despite the setback, the resilient veteran remains undeterred, staying motivated to bounce back stronger.

CEO Dana White in an interview stated that they will take care of Dariush in the near future.

Beneil Dariush is the #9 fighter in the UFC lightweight division and has massive experience. It won’t be surprising to see UFC put him against names such as Paddy Pimblett, Benoit Saint-Denis, etc. Apart from all this, it’s safe to say Renato Moicano got extremely lucky with his opportunities.

Renato Moicano talks about his ‘crazy’ lightweight title bout

The lightweight title bout between Arman Tsarukyan and Islam Makhachev was one of the most hyped fights of 2025. However, the Armenian star had to pull out due to a back injury, which has left a lot of fans disappointed. Similarly, the Brazilian jumped in and now is ready to go. He is currently on a four-fight win streak and has finished his last two opponents. In a recent interview with ESPN MMA, Moicano talked about the turn of events that led to him fighting for the title.

This morning was crazy. I was cutting weight and I was planning to make 156 and then my coach called me and said, ’Hey, you gonna have to cut the extra pound because they gonna need you for the 155.’ Let’s go.

Moicano has lately become a fan favorite due to his humorous personality and unfiltered opinions. However, against someone like Makhachev, the Brazilian is definitely a big underdog. However, few fans are expecting to see one of the biggest upsets at UFC 311.
