What Diego Maradona accomplished in his lifetime transcends beyond the sport of soccer. He will always be regarded as one of the greatest athletes to ever set foot in the sports industry. With his dedication to improve each day, he inspired millions, including the likes of Rafael Nadal, the King of Clay.

Maradona, or more endearingly known as El Pibe de Oro, broke barriers by dominating the fields with his small stature and leadership. Further, Diego was an Argentine who went on to coach his native land’s club, Gimnasia de La Plata. Like many, Rafa mourned the loss of this champion.

Diego became the recipient of the Golden Ball for Lifetime Achievement in 1995. Moreover, he lead his team to victory countless times due to his presence and leadership on the field. On Twitter, Rafa responded to the impact Maradona had and the hoops he jumped through.

The Spaniard stated, “Today the world of sports in general and football in particular has a void. #Maradona was one of the greatest athletes in history. What he did in football remains. My sincere condolences to his family, the world of football and all of Argentina.”

Inspite of this legend’s passing away, Maradona’s work and impact stands strong. Until the end of times, he will be the ‘classic number 10’ who looked beyond himself and spoke out for his mates in order to better the entirety of sport.
