Where are they now: Jon ‘Scouse Cafu’ Flanagan
Flanagan found himself without space for himself in his boyhood club and had to leave soon for his young age

Brazil legend Cafu praised Jon Flanagan saying that he saw a lot his own traits in the young right back. When a legend of the game praises you like that, you should be someone who actually has the talent to back those words. Jon Flanagan did have it for some time, but faded away.

Brendan Rodgers to Jurgen Klopp transition

He didn’t make the cut under Jurgen Klopp. It is simple enough to say that as he expects his wingbacks to be technical and strong on the ball. Flanagan wasn’t both and fell behind in the pecking order as Nathaniel Clyne and Trent Alexander Arnold overtook him. Later Joe Gomez also overtook in the order while in the left side James Milner, Andy Robertson and Alberto Moreno were there. At the age of 24, he found himself in his boyhood club with no space for himself. His previous loan at Burnley didn’t work wonders as he only played 10 times for them and missed more matches.

He also didn’t help himself as he pleaded guilty for assault on his girlfriend. So apart from not having the talent to play at Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, he was also a woman beater. Things obviously didn’t work with Liverpool, although they took the extra effort of aiding him in his rehab sessions.

He made his way to Rangers where Steven Gerrard was the manager. Both of them were in the same Liverpool team until the latter retired. Now he is a player under the Liverpool legend and even here he hasn’t made his mark. His opportunities dwindled as he became less and less impactful. Flangan found himself without a club this year and later signed for R. Charleroi S.C.

He will hope to revive his career in the Belgian League where his team ranks second in the league only behind goal difference.
