Which country has won the most medals in Swimming at Tokyo Olympics?

The swimming competition in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics witnessed a total of 37 events. The men’s 800 m freestyle, women’s 1500 m freestyle, and mixed 4 × 100 m medley relay were the new additions for the mega event.

In the 2016 Rio Olympics, 34 events took place. As many as 928 competitors took part in the Olympics swimming competitions in Tokyo. The events got underway on July 24 and ended on August 5 and kept the audiences and the players engaged throughout.

The USA won 30 medals – 11 golds, 10 silvers and nine bronzes. The legendary Katie Ledecky won gold in the 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle. She won bronze in the 400m freestyle, losing to Austria’s Ariane Titmus. Lydia Jacoby, in the 100m breaststroke is the other woman to bag gold.

In the men’s category, Caeleb Dressel won gold in the 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, and 50m freestyle. Robert Finke in the 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle, and Chase Kalisz in the 400m individual medley won the gold.

Australia bagged 20 medals – nine golds, three silvers and eight bronzes. Kaylee McKeown won the gold medal in the 100m and 200m backstrokes. Emma McKeon won gold in the 50m & 100m freestyle. She also clinched bronze in the 100m butterfly.

Among the men, Kyle Charmers in the 100m freestyle, Zak Stubblety-Cook in the 200m breaststroke, Jack McLoughlin in the 400 m freestyle and Brendon Smith in the 400m individual medley were successful.

Great Britain

Great Britain won a total of eight medals- four golds, three silver and one bronze. All the medals came in the men’s category itself. Adam Peaty in the men’s 100m breaststroke, Tom Dean in the men’s 200m freestyle clinched gold for their country.

The team also won the gold medals in the mixed 4x100m medley relay and men’s 4x200m freestyle relay. D Scott won two silvers in the men’s 200m freestyle and men’s 200m backstrokes. Luke Greenback won the bronze in the men’s 200m backstrokes.

China

China managed a total of six medals – three golds, two silvers and one bronze. In the men’s category, Wang Shun won the gold medal in the Men’s 200m individual medley. In the women’s category, Zhang Yufei clinched a gold in the Women’s 200m butterfly.

She also bagged the silver in the Women’s 100m butterfly. The other silver came in the Mixed 4x100m medley relay. The Asian country also won a gold medal in the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay.

Russian Olympic Committee bagged a total of five medals – two golds, two silver and one bronze. Evgeny Rylov won two gold medals in the Men’s 100m backstroke and Men’s 200m backstrokes.

Kliment Kolesnikov won the silver medal in the Men’s 100m backstroke and the bronze medal in the Men’s 4x200m freestyle relay.
