It seems lady luck is not on the side of the Chicago White Sox. After enduring a tough year last season, where they finished with 121 losses, the new season has not brought any changes to their fortunes. On Wednesday, the team lost in a bizarre fashion as Mike Tauchman suffered a last-minute injury against the Cleveland Guardians.
The two American League Central teams have not enjoyed a good start so far. While the White Sox entered this game with a 2-8 record, the Guardians, who won the division last year, were 4-6. They did beat the White Sox 1-0 on Tuesday.
In the top of the ninth inning, the Guardians led their division rivals 3-1 and were looking for their 2nd successive win this year. However, All-Star closer Emmanuel Clase found himself in trouble as he loaded the bases.
Tauchman was on second base and represented the tying run for the White Sox. As Miguel Vargas put the ball in the field, Jacob Amaya would come home from third base to score for his team. The bizarre moment came after this.
As Amaya went to home plate, Tauchman rounded off the third base and headed home in order to tie the game for the White Sox. However, the outfielder suffered an unfortunate injury as he reached near the plate.
He would thus slow down and get easily tagged out. As the White Sox already had two outs, this turned out to be the final out and brought an end to the game.

Tauchman had come off the injured list recently on Sunday after sustaining a right hamstring strain late in spring training.
Social media reacts to White Sox losing in dramatic fashion against the Guardians
In baseball, there have been moments where teams have won the game late in dramatic fashion. While sometimes there is a wild throw or a poor play, sometimes the ball bounces off the home plate umpire, allowing the opposition to take full advantage of it. The Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday had a similar dramatic moment to thank them as Mike Tauchman suffered a late injury in the game.

The Chicago White Sox did take an early 1-0 lead, but the Guardians turned it around to take a 2-1 lead. A Carlos Santana home run then put them 3-1 up. It would have been a close call at the plate had Tauchman been able to slide down without this injury.
Fans on social media were left stunned by what transpired in front of them. Many would make fun of them for losing in such a wild fashion. Meanwhile, one fan wrote, “You can’t make this stuff up” while reacting to it.

How do you walk off without even the slightest limp at the end?

If it’s me, they gotta bring the golf cart out. Play it up to be a career ending injury.
This definitely seems so unlikely it's fishy lol

It's still 2024 for the White Sox apparently 🤣🤣

Exactly. This can only happen to the hapless Sox.

After starting the season 1-0 with an emphatic 8-0 win over the Los Angeles Angels, the White Sox have once again strayed off the tracks. The 3-2 loss in this game was their 7th successive defeat, leaving them with a 2-9 record.
Are the Chicago White Sox in for another record breaking season?
There is a famous old cliche which says, “records are made to be broken.” While it is usually used in a positive light, there are some who are wondering whether this would be the case for the White Sox again this season after setting some unwanted records last season.

The White Sox had one of the worst years in MLB history last season. The team started the season with a 1-9 record and finished the year with an unwanted record of 41-121. They became just the second team to lose over 120 games in a season. Their 121 losses were the most any team has had in the modern era.
Things are not looking good for them at the moment, once again. After having a 2-2 record through 4 games, the 3-time World Series winners have lost their last 7 games on the bounce and have a 2-9 record while being bottom of the division.
FINAL: Guardians 3, #WhiteSox 2

As per stats, the White Sox have the third-worst batting average in the league with .202 after 11 games. They have also scored the 2nd least amount of runs (34). The pitching has been good for the team as they are ranked 13th in the league in Earned Runs Allowed (ERA) at 3.72 this year.
