The world saw a renewed Robert Whittaker, when the Australian faced Jared Cannonier at the recently concluded UFC 254. The co-main event of UFC 254, saw the Aussie break Jared Cannonier’s forearm in the very first round, and there was no stopping him from that point. Whittaker completely dominated the bout, as his American opponent clearly struggled to even land a proper punch, until the last minute of the final round.

The win saw, Whittaker become the number 1 contender for the middleweight title setting him up for a rematch against Israel Adesanya, with whom he had lost his middleweight belt a year ago.

A possible rematch seemed imminent, but in an unfortunate turn of events, the UFC President Dana White spoke about it in a press conference saying that Robert Whittaker wasn’t interested and so Israel will be facing Jan Blachowicz for the light heavyweight title. A distraught Whittaker later spoke about it saying that Dana White twisted things, and fighting Izzy in a rematch is and was always his priority

Whittaker feels Paulo Costa lost his contention to the title

Paulo Costa, who lost to Israel Adesanya at UFC 253, had called out Robert Whittaker on the 26th of October saying that the two should fight. But, Whittaker seemed uninterested and made his intentions clear that he has his eyes fixed on Adesanya.

Speaking about this in an interview with MMA Junkie, Whittaker said, “The only real logical fight for me right now is Izzy. I’ve held this spot as [number] one twice now in the last four, five months, and that’s a fight he just lost his contention to the title. That’s really the only fight that I am interested in at the moment. It’s very hard for me to be interested in anything else.”

Whittaker has every right to avoid Paulo Costa, because he has earned it. But do you think he will face Adesanya in a rematch anytime soon?
