The fight fans and the UFC community often wonder about how many relatives Khabib Nurmagomedov has in the promotion. Notably, many MMA/UFC fighters belonging to Dagestan, like the ‘Eagle’ carry similar appearances and surnames. As a result, it has frequently created confusion for the onlookers of the UFC. One such notable fighter who has been often linked to Khabib Nurmagomedov is Said Nurmagomedov.
Dagestani MMA fighter Said Nurmagomedov competes in the UFC bantamweight division. Since his promotional debut back in 2018, Said has clashed against several formidable bantamweight prospects like him. Speaking of his UFC records, the Dagestani fighter currently boasts an impressive fight record of seven wins and only two defeats.
Throughout his illustrious UFC career, Said has gained a reputation as a notable submission artist. His impressive submission victory over Cody Stamann at UFC 270 further solidified his standing within the UFC community. With this growing reputation, Said is currently scheduled to face Vinicius Oliveira at UFC’s second event in Saudi Arabia this coming weekend. However, like many other Dagestani fighters, does he have the support of Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Is Said Nurmagomedov related to Khabib Nurmagomedov?
The short answer is no; Said Nurmagomedov is not related to Khabib Nurmagomedov. Although they both hail from Dagestan and have similar last names, they do not share a blood relation. Interestingly, Said himself clarified this when rumors about a potential family connection with Khabib began circulating within the UFC community.
The UFC community has plenty of reasons to generate excitement over a potential connection between Said and Khabib. Notably, the former undisputed UFC lightweight champion already has several relatives competing in the promotion. Specifically, one of the top UFC bantamweight prospects, Umar Nurmagomedov, is Khabib’s cousin. However, the ‘Young Eagle’ isn’t the only cousin of the ‘Eagle’ who has made an appearance in the UFC.
Abubakar Nurmagomedov: Another MMA fighter from the Eagle’s family
When discussing Khabib Nurmagomedov’s brothers, Umar and Usman Nurmagomedov are well-known figures in the MMA community. However, there is another family member who had a brief stint in the UFC: Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Notably, he also trained under the guidance of Khabib’s late father, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov, and made his UFC debut in 2019.
Unlike the ‘Eagle’ and other Dagestani fighters, Abubakar did not have an impressive career in the promotion. As a UFC welterweight fighter, he competed four times during his stint. In those fights, Abubakar won two and lost two. His most recent fight took place in 2023 on the undercard of UFC Fight Night: Kara-France vs. Albazi.
Currently, while Khabib’s other brothers are making strides in their respective MMA promotions, Abubakar has recently left the UFC. In the aftermath of that, he now has the opportunity to make an impact in the exciting Global Fight League (GFL). Notably, he has been included in a list of elite MMA legends who are set to compete against one another after the league launches in April 2025.
