The wide receivers are probably the second most important players for a football team. An elite wide receiver can help the quarterback become a better player which will in turn help the franchise become a better team, just like Ja’Marr Chase helped Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson helped the Minnesota Vikings. But an elite pass catcher is hard to find in the league. There are only a handful of pass catchers that fit the elite category.

And as the NFL Draft gets closer, the receiver-needy teams are looking to find their Ja’Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson. This year’s draft class has a lot of talented receivers but who will most likely be the first receiver to get selected first in the 2023 NFL Draft? Well, nobody has a crystal ball but we can evaluate who is the No.1 wide receiver prospect in the 2023 draft class.

As previously mentioned, there are a lot of talented players in this draft class. More importantly, this pool of wide receivers is one of the most complicated to evaluate. A lot of people believe the Texas Christian University WR Quentin Johnston could be the best receiver out of the 2023 class due to his physical attributes but the player to watch out for in this draft is the Ohio State receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba was born on 14, February 2002. During the 2020 recruit circle, Jaxon was coming out of high school in Texas as a 5-star prospect and 5th-ranked wide receiver in Texas.

After receiving multiple D1 offers, the talented wide receiver committed to the Buckeyes football team. Jaxon just played 7 games during his freshman year and was named a starter during his sophomore season. Despite playing behind Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave at Ohio State, Jaxon registered 1606 and 9 touchdowns in the 2021 season.

He became an overnight sensation in 2022 when he set the FBS record and Ohio State record for most receiving yards in a single game with 347 receiving yards in a bowl game against Utah Utes. Unfortunately, he could only play in 3 games during his junior year due to injuries.

But still, the six-foot WR is physical, fast, and a great route runner. Even though he doesn’t have the physical attributes of Quentin Johnston, Jaxon is more polished than the TCU wide receiver and it would be a surprise to no one if he is the first wide receiver to be drafted in the 2023 NFL Draft.
