Why was Nick Diaz banned from MMA? When was his last fight?
Nick Diaz
Nick Diaz has possibly the biggest fan base among all UFC Fighters. The so-called “Diaz army” has been wanting to see him back in the octagon for a long time now. Many fans have wondered why the fighter from Stockton has not been seen inside the UFC octagon.
Nick Diaz last fought in the UFC against former middleweight champion Anderson Silva. The fight was the main event of UFC 183 that went down on February 1st, 2015. Since then, we have not been able to catch Nick inside the octagon. Why was Nick Diaz banned though? Before he locked horns with the greatest middleweight of all time, the Diaz brother was on a 2-year break from his Georges St Pierre fight.
In 2013, Nick took on GSP and lost the fight via decision. In the post-match, Diaz apologized to his fans for letting them and Stockton, the city he represented for losing the bout. Speaking to Joe Rogan, he said, “I think I’m going to have to figure out if I want to keep this doing this because I don’t think I got it anymore.” Many fans believed that was the end of Nick but luckily he signed a contract with UFC and fought Silva two years later.
In the bout against Anderson, Nick lost via decision but the fight later was called “No Contest” after the fighter from California tested positive for Marijuana. Weed and Diaz go hand in hand and everybody who knows him knows that for sure. The Nevada State Athletic Commission banned the fighter for marijuana consumption for five years and also was fined $165,000.
Is Nick Diaz coming back to fight?
Since his ban got over in the year 2020, Nick Diaz has been trying to get back into the octagon. The UFC star also made the fans believe that he was going to return in 2020 but that didn’t happen. But off-late, the fighter has been teasing a return to the UFC in 2021. Rumors and interviews suggested that he might be possibly fighting Khamzat Chimaev too.
UFC President Dana White and Nick have had meetings at the event of UFC 261 talking about a possible return. Dana is still not sure of his comeback and is not really excited about it. But it could be very possible that we might see the Diaz brother return to the octagon. White believes that the fighter is not ready mentally and he will like to wait for him to be ready.
