Why was the boxing match between Mike Tyson and Triple H cancelled by WWE?
Mike Tyson and Triple H were scheduled for a boxing match

Mike Tyson is undoubtedly the biggest name in boxing, in the world. At 54, Tyson is set to make an in-ring return tonight. But what many fans might not know is that there were plans of a boxing match at WWE. Tyson could have faced WWE’s “The Game” Triple H. But the plans did not materialize due to the demands that Tyson had from WWE.

Triple H, recently revealed in an interview with WWE.com the reason which led to the cancellation of the boxing match. The match was planned a few years ago, when Hunter was the top Heel on WWE. But the two parties could not come to an agreement, as a result the plan fell through.

Triple H discussed the details of the cancelled match with WWE.com. “We were going to do six rounds. I don’t remember if it was going to be full boxing rules, or whether I was wearing gloves. But it ended up being a deal where the whole thing just would have been a ludicrous amount of money, and it got pushed off.”

Tyson’s run in WWE

Tyson first appeared on WWE in 1998

The cancelled boxing match was not the first time that Tyson had appeared on WWE. Way back in 1998, Tyson made his first appearance on WWE. This was around the time while Tyson was suspended from boxing. Tyson had bitten his opponent Evander Holyfield’s ear, leading to his suspension.

Tyson was facing financial issues, when WWE called him up. Coincidentally, WWE too was struggling with their ratings, around the same time. Both the parties ended up benefitting from the $3.5 million deal.

Mike Tyson made a series of appearances on WWE, leading up to Wrestlemania. Fans might remember the Mania as the event where Stone Cold Steve Austin became the WWE Champion. Interestingly, Tyson betrayed D-Generation X and sided with The Texas Rattlesnake.
