One of the most legendary record in pro-wrestling undoubtedly had been The Undertaker’s Wrestlemania streak. The Phenom went unbeaten on the Show of the Shows for 21 consecutive years.

But at Wrestlemania XXX the unthinkable happened. Brock Lesnar defeated Taker to break his streak. Taker announced his retirement at Survivor Series after being with the company for 30 years. His Wrestlemania score-line ended with 23-2.

Why ending the streak was a mistake?

John Cena Sr recently appeared on Boston Wrestling MWF’s Wrestling Insiders. He discussed Taker’s retirement in great detail and was also asked about the biggest mistake of Taker’s career. Cena Sr felt it was the end of the streak. He strongly feels that ending the streak at Wrestlemania XXX was a wrong booking.

John Cena Sr explained that if WWE needs Taker to lose, it should be at some other even, but not Mania. He reasoned that it damaged the character that had been built over the years.

When Lesnar took it, that was the end of The Undertaker…say what you want but my buddy Paul [Bearer] always used to say… Paul Bearer would say ‘the streak never should end. They ended it. That was the worst they could have ever done.

Even Taker mentioned himself that he did not feel like losing to Lesnar. But he still went through with Vince McMahon’s decision. Taker’s take on losing was slightly different from Cena Sr’s. The Deadman thought that the streak must’ve been ended by Roman Reigns instead of Lesnar.
