Daniil Medvedev became the only player in history to defeat the World No.1, 2 and 3 at the Nitto ATP Finals. He ousted Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Dominic Thiem to claim this prestigious title whilst being undefeated in November.

After his greatest career win, the Russian has a new record in sight. In addition, he has proceeded to recognise the only threats in his way to becoming the World No.1.

Inspite of the difficultly, Medvedev is up for the challenge

In an interview with TASS, Medvedev acknowledged the dominance of The Big Four, especially when it comes to the World rankings. The Big Four, i.e, Djokovic, Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray have not let past another individual in the TOP-2 since 2005.

Any 2 of the quartet have always occupied the position of the World No.1 and 2 for the past 15 years.

While Daniil has faith in himself to break through, he recognised the difficulty that having 3 of these players around in their prime will pose.

“It will be more complicated to achieve this aim. With Rafa, Roger and Novak still locking horns on the courts,” Daniil stated.

However, the topsy turvy season’s effect has been more emphatic since the Russian found his footing after starting to drop in the ranks due to early round losses. Hence, Medvedev will not back down from this challenge. He has declared, “I will try to do my best,” to get to the top of the stack.
