The Williams F1 team has amassed quite a lot of applause this year for their on-track exploits. The FW45 has surpassed expectations in terms of performance and amidst its ever-improving stature at the pinnacle of motor racing, James Vowels has claimed that the Grove-based outfit is no longer a one-trick pony.

Williams has been considered as a team that is extremely strong at tracks that have got quite a few long straights. However, on the back of Alex Albon and Co.’s recent performances, James Vowels ardently believes that the FW45 has gone from strength to strength this year and is no longer dependent on specific track characteristics.

While shedding light on the same by referring to Williams’s outing at Zandvoort, he told Autosport, “If you said to me before we started do you want an eighth? Yeah, absolutely, I’ll take that, thanks very much. But in reality on merit, and in fact, we were pulling away from the Alpine at the time, we were sixth in the race. And without rain coming in, and also in our control, the last stop, we could have done a better decision on it, sixth was then available to us.”

We have tracks now that show we are not just a one-trick pony, a number of tracks we’re moving forward at. Now that won’t be the case at all races this year. I know that. But it’s enough that we’ve pulled ourselves now into seventh in the championship where there’s no debate that we’re seventh. Now we’re going to build on that, and move forward,” he said.

While James Vowels is extremely pleased with the progression he has witnessed at Williams since joining them, the outfit is also doing surprisingly well in the 2023 Constructors Championship. As things stand, the British team has a comfortable hold over seventh place.

The Haas F1 team is ten points behind them, and the way their season has panned out so far, it seems very unlikely that the Guenther Steiner-led team would be able to become a nuisance for Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant in the upcoming races. However, one area that Williams needs to improve in is scoring points with both its cars.

Alex Albon has scored all the points for the Williams F1 team this year, and his rookie teammate, on the other hand, has struggled immensely in getting to grips with the FW45. If Sargeant can also sort out his issues, it will help Williams score a few more points in the remaining races this year.
