Top seed Jannik Sinner will meet fifth seed Daniil Medvedev in a highly anticipated quarter-final clash at Wimbledon on Tuesday. The Italian defeated 14th seed Ben Shelton 6-2, 6-4, 7-6 (9) to secure his third consecutive quarter-final at SW19.
Meanwhile, Medvedev secured his place in his second consecutive Wimbledon quarter-final after Grigor Dimitrov withdrew. The Bulgarian had a nasty slip in the first set and conceded the match while trailing 3-5.
The match between Sinner and Medvedev will be a rematch of this year’s Australian Open final, where the Italian won his first Grand Slam title. Sinner came back from two sets down to win 3-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 against the Russian.

Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev: Match Preview
Both Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev have had challenging paths to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals. Sinner dropped sets to Yannick Hanfmann and Matteo Berrettini but has improved his form in recent matches against Miomir Kecmanovic and Ben Shelton.
Similarly, Medvedev also lost sets on his way to his second Wimbledon quarter-final, requiring four sets to defeat Alexandre Muller and Jan-Lennard Struff.
The main difference in their journeys is the time spent on court. Sinner has accumulated 10 hours and 25 minutes, whereas Medvedev has only spent 8 hours and 12 minutes. This statistic is partly due to Grigor Dimitrov’s withdrawal from the Russian’s fourth-round match during the first set.
Therefore, if the match goes to five sets, as it did in the Australian Open final, Medvedev could have the fresher legs. This wasn’t the case in Melbourne, where the former World No. 1 had played three five-set matches leading up to the final.
Jannik Sinner vs. Daniil Medvedev: Match Prediction
Jannik Sinner and Daniil Medvedev have faced each other 11 times, with the Russian leading their head-to-head 6-5. However, their head-to-head stats are not as straightforward as the numbers suggest.
Medvedev won their first six encounters from the 2020 Marseille to the 2023 Miami. However, Sinner has recently turned the rivalry around, winning their last five matches. Two of these victories came in 2024, with the top seed prevailing in the Australian Open final and the Miami Open semi-final.
All of their meetings have taken place on hard courts. Therefore, fans are uncertain how these two tennis titans will fare against each other on the Wimbledon grass. However, recent results suggest a trend.
Sinner has won his last five encounters against Medvedev, including their only Grand Slam meeting earlier this year in Australia. With the confidence he has gained from winning the title at Halle, the Italian is the safe bet to reach his second consecutive Wimbledon semi-final.
Match Predictions: Jannik Sinner in four sets.
