The 2026 Wimbledon Championships is set to take place between 29th June and 12th July at the All England Club. It is the third Grand Slam of the year, with a lot of action expected.
Jannik Sinner won last year’s Championships after defeating Carlos Alcaraz, his arch-rival, in four sets. The Italian star will be defending the title, while Alcaraz will not feature at the event due to a wrist injury. Sinner is the No.1 seed at the tournament and the favorite to win the title for the second consecutive time.
Sinner will be challenged by Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev, who are his biggest rivals following the absence of Alcaraz. Djokovic enters Wimbledon with immense experience, having won the trophy seven times in his career. At the same time, Zverev recently claimed his first Grand Slam at the French Open and reached the semi-finals of the Terra Wortmann Open.
As for the women’s, Iga Swiatek is the defending champion and will hope to replicate the magnificent tennis she produced last year, sweeping aside Amanda Anisimova 6-0, 6-0 in the final. She’s yet to win silverware this year and has not gotten to a final on tour. In fact, her best run in Grand Slams this year was reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
Swiatek will face stiff competition from the likes of Aryna Sabalenka, Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, and Coco Gauff. Sabalenka is yet to win a major title this year but has been impressive in other tournaments, particularly on hard courts. She’s yet to claim any trophy since the start of the clay court season.
She was thrown out of the Berlin Tennis Open last week by Pegula in the semi-finals. Pegula, on the other hand, has been one of the most consistent players on tour this season. Apart from a slight dip in form on clay, her results have been fantastic on tour this year, far better than those of Gauff and Swiatek.
Besides that, 23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams will compete in the singles event at Wimbledon. The 44-year-old star has featured in doubles since her comeback from retirement, winning just one match alongside Victoria Mboko at the Queen’s Championships. She was handed a wildcard by Wimbledon organizers, and she’s likely to face a top opponent in the opening round of the tournament.
