From Sachin Tendulkar’s heartfelt wish to Virender Sehwag’s poem: Wishes pour in from Indian cricketers on Mother’s Day

Social media was abound with wishes on the occasion of Mother’s Day. The celebratory day honoring mothers around the world, is celebrated each year on the second Sunday of May. The celebration started in the early 20th century in the United States when the first service of worship honoring women was organized at a church in Grafton. The church is now called the International Mother’s Day Shrine.
Beginning from there, Mother’s Day has been celebrated each and every year. It is believed to be the day where motherhood, maternal bond and each and every mother should be venerated. Due to the significance of the day and the bond towards mothers that each and every person has, this is a day that sees a plethora of wishes being conveyed not only in real life but also on social media.
Indian cricketers lead Mother’s Day wishes
On the occasion of Mother’s Day in 2021, the Indian cricketing fraternity led the wishes by posting pictures and heartwarming messages. In the forefront was a piece of poetry from former Indian opener Virender Sehwag which has been going viral. Cricketing icon Sachin Tendulkar too penned a heartfelt note to his ‘two mothers’ for ‘praying’ for him irrespective of how old he got.
Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises like Mumbai Indians (MI) and Delhi Capitals (DC) sent in wishes on behalf of their players. Similarly, cricketers like Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Dinesh Karthik and Ajinkya Rahane sent in their wishes. Here are a few such wishes:
