In a viral video, controversial WNBA star Brittney Griner was spotted on a basketball court. Notably, she also sported a fresh new look. After a prolonged stay in a Russian penal colony and her subsequent release, BG has made her comeback on the court for her team, the Phoenix Mercury.

Fans may recall Brittney Griner’s signature long dreadlocks, but they’ve undergone a transformation, as the basketball star now sports a new hairstyle. Interestingly, fans on Twitter have noticed a striking resemblance between Griner’s new look and that of Jackson Mahomes, brother of Kansas City Chiefs’ quarterback, Patrick Mahomes.

Brittney Griner endured a challenging last two years, marked by adversity. The 7-time WNBA All-Star was arrested in Russia on February 17, 2022, which then sparked a lengthy legal battle. After months of negotiation and court proceedings, Griner returned to the United States on December 10, 2022.

In June of last year, the WNBA star made her highly anticipated return to Texas to play for the first time since her detainment in Russia. Griner showcased her prowess on the court, scoring 24 points and securing four rebounds in her comeback game against the Dallas Wings.

Brittney Griner returns to Baylor for her jersey retirement ceremony

Brittney Griner’s No. 42 jersey was retired by Baylor during her first return to a Bears home game in 11 years. Griner, a two-time AP national player of the year and career blocks leader, impressed fans with an impromptu slam dunk. She played a pivotal role in Baylor’s 40-0 national championship victory as a junior in the 2011-12 season, earning consecutive AP Player of the Year awards. Her final home games featured memorable dunks during the NCAA tournament in March 2013, although the team fell to Louisville in the Sweet 16.

Griner expressed her thoughts during an in-game interview on the ESPN broadcast.

Just full of emotion. As soon as [the jersey] started to go up, that's when I started to break.

Griner expressed her gratitude, stating that it meant everything to be honored and appreciated by the school to which she dedicated so much of her time. She completed her Baylor degree in 2019.

During her four seasons with Baylor, the 6-foot-8 center averaged 22.2 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 5.1 blocked shots in 148 games. Griner’s 3,283 total points set a Big 12 record and ranked fifth on the NCAA career list. Additionally, her 748 blocks remain an NCAA record for both women and men.
