“A Catastrophe,” Marine Veteran Paul Whelan’s brother rigs-out TRAUMATIC message as US celebrates the homecoming of Brittney Griner
Paul Whelan and Brittney Griner
WNBA Star Brittney Griner was stuck in a Russian Prison on charges of drugs in possession, Thursday marks a special day for Americans as President Joe Biden manages high-level negotiations to bring home the unjust detainee. Biden stated to let America know that Brittney is ‘safe, on a plane, on her way home.’
Amidst the celebration of her return, US Marine Veteran Paul Whelan failed to be retained. He was imprisoned by the Russian government in 2018 on the grounds of espionage and was sentenced to 16 years.
The initial plan stated by the POTUS was to bring home both WNBA Star Brittney and Marine veteran Whelan in exchange for the infamous arms dealer Viktor Bout, but unfortunately, Whelan has been left behind in Russia. His brother stated after the release of the WNBA Star terming his condition as “a catastrophe”
“I am so glad that Brittney Griner is on her way home,” David Whelan, the brother of Paul Whelan jotted down. “As the family member of a Russian hostage, I can literally only imagine the joy she will have, being reunited with her loved ones, and in time for the holidays.”

Paul Whelan’s brother wants him home, happy to see Brittney Griner come home
Whelan’s brother added to his comment, “The Biden Administration made the right decision to bring Ms. Griner home, and to make the deal that was possible, rather than waiting for one that wasn’t going to happen,”
Isn’t his lamenting justified? As he knows the success a family would feel after watching their wrongfully detained prisoner to be free and come home. This wasn’t the first time Whelan was left behind in the Russian prison, the last exchange between the nations took place in April.
“Despite the possibility that there might be an exchange without Paul, our family is still devastated. I can’t even fathom how Paul will feel when he learns. Paul has worked so hard to survive nearly 4 years of this injustice.” he concluded his message.
CNN interviewed Paul Whelan via a phone call soon after the release of Brittney, he expressed his disappointment towards the US Government as he felt, “more has not been done to secure my release,” he added, “I was arrested for a crime that never occurred, I don’t understand why I’m still sitting here.”
