Women’s Long Jump: Malaika Mihambo Claims Gold with Gigantic Effort; Brittney Reece and Ese Brume Finish on the Podium at Tokyo Olympics

History was created at the Tokyo Olympics in women’s long jump, as Germany’s Malaika Mihambo took home the gold medal in a gigantic effort on her very last jump, making her Olympic Champion along with the 2019 World Champion. Brittney Reece of USA and Ese Brume of Nigeria took the silver and bronze medal respectively.

Mihambo started with a jump of 6.83m, which put her in second place after the first round, as Brume was first with a jump of 6.97m. Mihambo went on to better her jump in the second go, with 6.95m, but she was soon put into third place after a fantastic jump from Reece.

Reece jumped a 6.97m, which put her ahead of Brume, as her second last jump was higher then the Nigerian’s. Mihambo had to give her best effort in the last jump. Mihambo delivered, as she jumped a stellar 7.00m, not only jumping her season best, but also clinching the gold medal. Reece took silver, while Ese Brume took an emotional bronze medal.

History was created at the Tokyo Olympics as for the first time ever, 8 women had jumped over the 6.80m mark in the same long jump competition. It was an emotional medal for Brume, as she had secured Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

Malaika Mihambo won the gold medal with a huge jump in her very last attempt, leaving the competition behind.

It was an emotional moment for Brume, as she had secured Nigeria’s first medal at the Tokyo Olympics.
