Buddy Matthews last wrestled in a six-man tag team match alongside his House of Black teammates last month in AEW. There was a lot of speculation about him leaving AEW to return to WWE. Finally, a recent report provided a major update about his future. 

A reliable wrestling insider, Ibou from WP, reported that a House of Black member had re-signed a new contract with AEW, squashing the WWE return rumors. His run in WWE was not that bad, as Buddy Matthews won the Cruiserweight Title, NXT Title, and WWE RAW Tag Team Titles. However, in June 2021, he was released by WWE, and after working on the independent circuit for some time, he joined AEW the next year.

Last year in AEW, he won the AEW World Trios Championship with Brody King and Malakai Black. However, Matthews has yet to win a singles title with the Jacksonville-based company. The 35-year-old wrestler last earned a title shot against Adam Copeland on the May 1st episode of Dynamite for the TNT Championship but lost.

Many fans thought he would soon join WWE, given that his wife, Rhea Ripley, is a prominent star in the company. Especially with the storyline Mami is currently involved in, Matthews would have been a great addition. However, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the 35-year-old wrestler.

Fans reacted to the news of Buddy Matthews signing a new contract with AEW

The reports of Buddy Matthews signing with the Jacksonville-based company certainly caught people’s attention. Some fans stated that both he and Rhea Ripley were making big decisions for their future. Other fans were confused at first but understood his decision after witnessing Andrade‘s treatment in WWE.
