The Ultimate Fighting Championship recently held its UFC 306 event, headlined by O’Malley vs. Dvalishvili. The event took place on September 14th at The Sphere in Paradise, Nevada. As expected, it featured several special guests, including WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio. Taking place just before Mexican Independence Day, the event also featured a celebration of Mexican heritage.
TKO Group posted an Instagram video of Rey Mysterio meeting with UFC President Dana White. The UFC CEO thanked the Hall of Famer for showing up to the event. The Luchador told him that he had a special ‘Noche UFC’ mask made for that night that he had worn to the event. The former WWE Champion then unmasked in public and gifted his black mask to the 55-year-old. Almost immediately afterward, he put on a golden mask to conceal his face once again.
The 3x World Champion’s son, Dominik Mysterio, also joined his father at the event. However, the two kept up kayfabe and were seated at opposite ends of the arena. The father-son duo rarely broke character and even maintained it at the wrestling legend’s Hall of Fame induction speech in 2023.
Since the WWE-UFC merger under TKO Group Holdings, many WWE superstars have been spotted attending UFC events. Mysterio himself was a part of the crowd during UFC 290 last year in July. Furthermore, other superstars such as CM Punk, Bianca Belair, and Montez Ford have also been seen at these events.

The wrestling world was astonished to see this gesture by Mysterio. It was very rare that the Raw superstar ever entered the public domain without his mask on. He has only been spotted unmasked while hanging out with his family or in his private life.
Fans pointed out that Mysterio must have a lot of respect for Dana White if he unmasked in front of him while in the public eye. Furthermore, the UFC CEO showed respect in his own way by not looking at the 2006 Royal Rumble Winner while he changed his mask. The cameraman also showed the back of his head while he was unmasked and did not directly show his face in the footage.
A luchador’s mask is considered his identity both in and out of the ring. It represents their character and persona, and it is even considered sacred to a degree. Such wrestlers do everything in their power to keep their faces and names a secret. Some of the most iconic luchadors of Mexican wrestling have even been buried in their masks.
