Potapova, the nineteen year old from Russia has done well in the Dubai Open so far. Before that, she reached the third round of the Australian Open 2021, where she was beaten by Serena Williams 7-6 6-2. At Dubai, she beat Laura Siegemund of Germany in the first round, 6-3 6-2. In the second round she got the better off the 11th seed, Madison Keys. 6-4 6-3.

But her best victory came against the sixth seed Belinda Bencic whom she beat 6-1 2-6 7-5. Her Quarter Final opponent is Barbora Krejcikova. Krejcikova couldn’t qualify into the main draw of the Qatar Open, but in the Dubai Open she has done well so far. In the first round she beat Maria Sakkari 6-27-6.

In the second round she overcame former French Open champion Jeļena Ostapenko. Svetlana Kuznetsova was her victim in the third round, she lost 3-6 2-6.
