Coco Gauff is the youngest female player in this tournament and has given some splendid performances this year. After a disappointing outing at the Australian Open, the American played well to win the Qatar Open women’s double title with Jessica Pegula. She also reached the Quarter-final of the same tournament but lost to Maria Sakkari.

She then reached the third round and fourth round of the Indian Wells Open and Miami Open respectively, but lost to Simona Halep in the former and Iga Swiatek in the latter. She then shocked the world by reaching the final of both the singles and doubles events of the French Open, but unfortunately lost on both occasions.

The 18-year-old then competed in the Wimbledon but could not advance to the fourth round of the tournament. She subsequently entered the US Open but was defeated by Caroline Garcia in straight sets in the Quarter-finals. She was knocked out of the San Diego Open and the Guadalajara Open by Iga Swiatek and Victoria Azarenka respectively, in the quarter-finals of both tournaments.

She is the only player besides Jessica Pegula who will be competing in both the singles and doubles events of the WTA Finals 2022 tournament.

Caroline Garcia has been ruthless this season on the court. She has won three WTA singles titles this year. Her start of the season was not comfortable as she was knocked out of the Australian Open and Dubai Duty-Free Tennis Championships in the first round itself.

The French then won the French Open women’s doubles title with Kristina Mladenovic beating the pair of Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula. She won her first WTA title at Bad Homburg Open, beating Bianca Andreescu in a tight match. She soon won the Poland Open and Cincinnati Masters.

She reached the semi-final of the US Open but lost to Ons Jabeur in straight sets. She was looking impressive at Guadalajara Open until she was defeated by Sloane Stephens of the USA in straight sets.

The 29-year-old will be playing in the WTA Finals tournament for the second time in her career. She last played in this tournament in 2017.

It will be a close call to say who will win this match. Both Coco Gauff and Caroline Garcia are in great form and would be looking to start the tournament with a convincing win. While the 2022 French Open finalist is more dynamic on the court, the 2022 French Open women’s doubles champion is stronger with her forehand.
