Osaka will make a comeback to the tour after taking a month off after her Australian Open triumph. The Japanese tennis superstar is arguably the best women’s player in the world right now. Post the resumption of the tour, she has participated in four tournaments.

It started with the Cincinnati Open in August 2020, an event where she reached the final but withdrew at that stage. After that she went to the US Open 2020 where she won the trophy. Up next was the warm up event for the Australian Open, Murray River Open, where she reached the Semi-Final of the event and she again withdrew at that stage.

At the Australian Open 2021 she again became the champion, beating Jennifer Brady 6-4 6-3. She had a first round bye in the Miami Open. Her second round opponent is Ajla Tomljanovic. Tomljanovic hasn’t played on the tour since the Australian Summer. Her best result was against Simona Halep in the second round of the Australian Open, a three set defeat 6-4 4-6 5-7, but with a lot of fight.

Osaka has a game that is best suited for hardcourts. Her serve, her powerful play on both wings, and most importantly her desire to win and dominate will weigh heavily on Tomljanovic. Tomljanovic can only hope that it doesn’t get very embarrassing.
